Veterans Day is a major event for the Rho Kappa National Honors Society.

Annually, the honors society hosts a middle school assembly, community

event, and a fundraiser for a veteran-related cause.

For the past three years, that fundraiser has been the Project

Poppy Wall, in which high school students could purchase a small poppy

to pin on a wall near the Shockey Center for the Performing Arts. The red

poppy is a symbol for the blood of soldiers shed in war. This year, the

fundraiser was coupled with a fundraiser named A Field of Freedom in which

students could purchase a small American flag to be pinned on the front

lawn of the school as a display of veteran support. The proceeds from

this year's fundraiser will be used to sponsor Hometown Hero Banner

renewal fees. This program is called “No Hero Left Behind.”

The community event, held November 10th, focused on women in war.

The event consisted of an overview of Veterans Day, women in war,

animal veterans, and a panel of three female veterans. Rho Kappa scholars

Rebecca Jones, Lilah Placko, and Adelaide Dietrich presented a slideshow

and offered the panel with questions to discuss. Sitting on the panel was

Greencastle math teacher and Airman First Class Jacklyn Ruzbacki

Sergeant First Class Reanna Murray, and Specialist Cecelia Buglar. The

panel discussed the realities of being a woman in the military, particularly

while being a mother. On behalf of The Greencastle Archives and Rho Kappa,

thank you to Reanna Murray, Jacklyn Ruzbaki, and Cecelia Buglar for your

service.

During the event, Rho Kappa raised additional funds for the Hometown Hero

Banners. Watch the video here to hear the experiences of the panel. Or the

video here to see the program presentation.

The Middle School event was similar to the community event in that it

focused on women in war. Reanna Murray (Sergeant First Class) led

the event. Middle school students enjoyed the educational slide show and

personal insights from our veteran speaker.

The 2025 Veterans Day events were a success thanks to the amazing panel,

the Rho Kappa Scholars who helped to run the fundraiser, high schoolers

who donated to the Hometown Hero Banner cause, and all of the people

behind the scenes who made the middle school assembly and community

event run smoothly. In the end, Rho Kappa was able to raise $304 for

The “No Hero Left Behind” cause.
